Vocal Exercises Help Singers Get Better!

What do vocal exercises do? When practiced correctly, they enable you to improve your voice as you sing the exercises which may consist of scales in different keys that may have you reach notes getting progressively higher. Before you starting your regular practice or a performance, start slowly by practicing vocal exercises to get your voice strong. They are a great way to get your voice ready for good diction, voice projection, and intonation in a performance. Also, make sure you avoid using your voice frequently or smoking so that your vocal cords are in good condition.
When you do vocal exercises, the lungs only hold so much air and when they empty out so does your projection of sound. You can train your lungs to sustain longer and use your breathing to hold notes longer than people who don't practice this method. Some vocal coaches have their students stand with their feet together and their arms stretched out as this allows you balance yourself so you can concentrate on your stance as well as your delivery. This doesn't mean that when singing you should be stiff or rigid, you should be relaxed with your shoulders sloping. If you've seen singers that sing with rage or anger they are all tensed up and use their energy to deliver their voice thus burning themselves out faster than somebody who looks relaxed.
If you learn how to practice diction it will help your speaking and singing. Some places to practice are poetry slams or taking a sentence and expressing it with your own style. It might seem weird but this technique is what makes the difference between a good and great singer.
The best way to hear yourself sing is to have your voice recorded so that you can match your own voice. If you want to sound like a certain singer you have to know what range they can sing at, matching your own voice allows you to sing your own harmony and melody. Another interesting thing about your voice is that you can only comfortably sing as high as you can hum.
When you practice every day, your voice will improve gradually in time as long as you don't overdo it. Some singers are more gifted than others and can hold notes longer and singer the higher pitches better, but you can definitely improve yourself with determination and hard work. Realize that the foundation of voice are most important and you must know what they are and practice them daily, if possible.
Your singing instructor will insist that you do your voice exercises as they the key to your improvement as a singer. If you want to be the best you can be, make sure that you practice your voice exercises. You will be very glad as you will gain positive results in the long run if you do.
