Are you currently thinking about homeschooling? Maybe you have had some problems with your public school, and are seriously considering the option of homeschooling. In this case, our best home school resource might be just the thing to help! It's difficult to decide whether or not to homeschool, and you may begin to panic at all the things you do not yet know. Don't worry - we'll help you right here.
Homeschooling is not exactly an easy decision for some families. Please do not get discouraged on your search to learn more about how to home school, and what you'll need to do. You may be surprised to learn that teaching your children is easier than you thought! Finding your own best home school resource, either online or off will help immensely.
We live in Ohio, so in our state - we start by sending what is called a "letter of intent" to the superintendent of our local school board. Basically this letter states that we intend to home school our boys, and we also need to include a basic outline of the curriculum we will be using for the year. Every state has it's own policies, so start by calling the superintendent of your own local board of education.
You may find that there are other requirements depending on the State you live in, or country for that matter. Since we live in the US - we have requirements by state, but I'm sure there are also requirements by country too. You may even need to name and register your home school.
Most cities will have a local homeschooling resource center, or you can find local homeschool groups. On of my personal best home school resources has been our local homeschool group. Within these groups, you can get acquainted with other parents in your area that are homeschooling too. Many of these groups will have more experienced families that you can learn from. Not only that, they will often share in teaching duties, schedule field trips, classes and other fun things!
Personally, some of my best home school resources come from right online. That's where I found my own homeschooling group, and a ton of great information. Folks online share things that they learn about, including fun FREE activities for homeschoolers! We got a chance to head to our local Zoo completely FREE just by paying attention to our groups posts. Your kids will love you for taking them out to socialize with the other homeschooling families.
You will find that homeschooling blogs are particularly helpful because other homeschooling parents will post comments, suggestions, tips, tricks, and yep - even free stuff when they hear about it. You will want to find other homeschooling families with blogs in your area, even Yahoo groups - so you can take advantage of the local free opportunities that come along. The online community will provide an excellent place for you to learn, grow, and contribute. Your children will benefit because you are taking advantage of all that is offered!
